Maybe you saw the documentary on DPTV in October about Cyrano, the new opera by MOT founder Dr. David Di Chiera.
Maybe you turn on DPTV and see some of the Great Performances series from the Metropolitan Opera in New York. Did you know you have an opportunity to hear our own Michigan Opera Theater live on WRCJ? If not, I encourage you to tune on April 6th at 2PM for a live broadcast of Bellini's La Sonnambula, a charming period-piece opera that is part of the "Deception" series at MOT.Here is where the fun starts: not only are we live, we are live IN THE LOBBY at the opera house! If you are attending the opera in person, you will get to see how radio actually works!
Mostly it will be a few people scrambling around amongst a lot of cables, wearing headsets. :)
When I am down at the opera house, many of you come up to say hi (Keep doing that by the way, we love to hear from you!) and you tell us the best stories:
why you listen to us
how it makes you feel
and how you spread the word to your friends about us
So many listeners are also viewers of PBS - that is one of the great things I have found out about being part of this community - people in Detroit support ALL the arts.
Maybe you are one of the PBS viewers who has never heard an opera - let me take a moment to tell you that once you do hear one, you WILL want to hear more!
WRCJ is not only providing you with the live broadcast, but when you go to our website on the day of the broadcast, you will find:
a synopsis of the opera, (the synopsis is the story)
a link to the libretto (a line-by-line translation of the opera so you can follow along)
and recorded interviews with Dr. DiChiera, Maestro Richard Bonynge, and Madame Renata Scotto.
Right here in Detroit, a world-class opera company, world-class musicians, conductors, singers, directors and designers, and a world-class radio station. Your station is WRCJ! Join me on April 6th at 2PM, either by listening on the radio, on your computer , or live at the opera house.
Toi! Toi!

Thanks, Kelly
