Ready…Set…Bid High!

I know I’m telling my age a bit when I admit that I was watching DPTV when it was only referred to as Channel 56 and fundraising was done through a live on-air auction with the bid boards in the studio as the backdrop. No special concerts or programs about health, well being, finances, diets or improving your brain function. Just great items donated to the station by local businesses and individual members that viewers called in to bid on. Working as a volunteer on the phones was crazy as calls continued to ring in as soon as you could hang up the phone. It was so much fun to be a part of literally dozens of active auctions at a time! Bidding could get really hot and the volunteers could sometimes be heard shouting out bidding increases as the auction time for an item drew to a close. Total, controlled chaos and a great time for volunteers. Ahh, I miss those days!

I’ll admit that I’m a big eBay shopper. I get a kick out of getting a deal along with the thrill of “winning” what I want. I guess the excitement of working as a volunteer on the Channel 56 Auction rubbed off on me.

For those of you who love the thrill of a good auction, I have good news…Auction is back! Just as “Channel 56” has progressed to be known as Detroit Public TV or DPTV, the auction has progressed to an online event and still has great items to bid on! The DPTV auction runs from today (April 16th) through April 22nd at 9PM. We’ll be featuring Auction updates every evening so be sure to check your Signal guide so you can catch the latest.
