Weekend Variety

Everyone loves to see a hot air balloon floating in the sky. Kids and kids-at-heart get all excited as they watch it and try to see if they can catch a glimpse of the pilot and maybe, if it’s close enough, even get a wave from the balloon.

Fred and Kelley are taking Get Up! Get Out! to the Michigan Challenge Balloonfest in Howell to examine, up close, what these balloons actually are and how they really work. Kids of all ages will enjoy this segment and gain a better understanding of how the pilots actually get them into the air. The beauty and science of hot air ballooning is always a winner. You won’t want to miss this episode and can catch it either Friday at 5 PM or on Saturday morning at 9 AM.

Viewers should consider getting up and getting out to Howell this weekend as well to get their own “up close” view of the 60 hot air balloons and all the other attractions that Howell includes as a part of the Balloonfest weekend.

My absolute favorite part of the Michigan Challenge Balloonfest has got to be the Balloon Glow. Held Saturday night at dusk, you can witness many balloons actually lit up in the darkness. Howell knows how to really liven things up by adding a night skydiving and pyrotechnics show to go along with the glowing balloons. To me, it’s more memorable than just a fireworks show and is a great family experience. My husband and I never miss it. With an associated Arts Festival, Antique and Custom Car Show, carnival rides, fun tent and Medieval Village (not to mention the parades and daytime skydiving shows) it’s like rolling the Renaissance Festival, Dream Cruise and State Fair all into one action-packed weekend! It literally takes Saturday and Sunday to see and do it all! Best of all, it’s affordable! With a $12 daily or $20 weekend parking pass, admission is covered for everyone you can fit in the car!

Not able to Get Up! and Get Out! this weekend? Then DPTV has you covered as well with great shows too.

Marilyn Monroe and others on setFriday at 9 PM, catch the classic, Some Like it Hot with Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon. Plenty of music and laughs for a rollicking good time.

Saturday starting at 8 PM, Antiques Roadshow finds treasures in Houston, Texas. At 9 PM Mystery! has Miss Marple uncovering clues in Murder at the Vicarage. Don’t miss the music Saturday late night as Josh Groban takes the Soundstage at 11 followed by Austin City Limits: Blues Traveler at Midnight.

With next week leading into the July 4th holiday, make sure you plan to catch the Capitol Fourth starting at 8 PM on Friday, July 4th. I’ll give you more details on that next week or you can check it out yourself in our online schedule.
