Thank You Cato!

Those who work at Detroit Public TV received the news today that Cato Weatherspoon has decided to retire after 35 years of distinguished work on countless Channel 56 productions. Cato’s achievements include a remarkable legacy as the long time director of our American Black Journal series and a collection of industry awards that would be difficult for anyone in local television to match.

One thing that you learn quickly about Cato is that he possesses a deep commitment to public television, particularly when it comes to serving its local community. You’ll also recognize a gift he has for saying more in a one-line observation and facial expression than a panel of pundits often delivers in a one-hour network talk show. Not to be taken lightly is his ability to make people smile, which soon becomes a laugh, and, finally, a reminder of the perspectives and contributions that are uniquely Cato.

So, what do you say to a man who gives you all this? Thank you, my friend.
